Holy Cross Hospital celebrates International Nurses’ Day

Nurses at Holy Cross Hospital in Haslemere celebrated International Nurses’ Day by hosting a barbeque, with food from around the world.

International Nurses’ Day is celebrated annually on 12 May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. This year, the theme was ‘Our Nurses. Our Future’ which provided a global opportunity to reflect on the lessons learned from the pandemic and future action that can be taken to ensure nurses are protected, respected and valued.

Holy Cross Hospital has long believed that investing in learning and development is key for strengthening health care. Staff have opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge with specific initiatives such as the Trainee Nursing Associate Apprenticeship which is for health care assistants who want to further their careers. Holy Cross also offers Lead Adult Care Worker Level 3 Apprenticeships and student nurse placements. In addition, Holy Cross provides assistance to overseas nurses who want to qualify with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) so they can work in the UK.

This investment in training and qualifications ensures that Holy Cross Hospital nurses have the necessary skills to provide high-quality specialist care for patients who have complex needs resulting from brain injury or neurological conditions.

Gina Guo, Director of Nursing Services at Holy Cross Hospital says: "International Nursing Day is an important day for us to thank all our nurses for the role they play in healthcare. At Holy Cross, we recognise the importance of investing in our nurses and health care assistants and providing them with the training and backing they need to be successful. We are proud to support the theme of 'Our Nurses Our Future' and believe that investing in our nurses is essential to the future of healthcare."

Holy Cross Hospital has a variety of roles for people wanting a career in healthcare. Every day, hospital staff challenge the limits of extreme neurological disability and have built a reputation for being a centre of excellence. The hospital employs a rich and diverse team of senior health care assistants and registered nurses originating from over 20 countries.
