Holy Cross marks International Nurses Day with week of celebrations
Holy Cross Hospital has celebrated International Nurses Day with a week of activities recognising the important role nurses and carers play in patient care and recovery.
The celebrations began with a lamp lighting ceremony in honour of Florence Nightingale who was the founder of modern nursing. Throughout the week, staff took part in a range of events including a Wall of Gratitude, where colleagues and patients shared messages of thanks, and a World Map Pin Board highlighting the diverse backgrounds of Holy Cross nursing and care staff.
Other activities included mime and skit performances, open mic ‘Stories from the Heart’ sessions, a nurses’ fashion show, cultural dance performances, quizzes, and food representing countries from around the world. Gifts were also presented to all nurses and carers in appreciation of their work.
In a tribute to outstanding contributions across the organisation, the week concluded with awards for Best Nurse and Best Healthcare Assistant; both of which were voted for and nominated by the Holy Cross team. Ward Manager, Gelu Vrabie received the Best Nurse award and Health Care Assistant, Hillary Kipyegon received the best Health Care Assistant award.
Frances Campion Smith, Chief Executive at Holy Cross says: “During the week of International Nurses Day, we extended our deepest gratitude to our extraordinary nursing team.
“In our rehabilitation setting, their work goes far beyond clinical care. They walk alongside patients as they relearn, rebuild, and rediscover degrees of independence after life-changing physical trauma or neurological injury or illness. Their expertise, compassion, and dedication are central to the recovery journey of our patients and their families, and I thank each and every one of our nurses and carers for their resilience, commitment, and exceptional care.”
Holy Cross provides patients with specialist rehabilitation after an injury, illness, or major surgery. The nurses and carers employed by Holy Cross play a vital role in rehabilitation, recovery, and patient wellbeing every single day.
