The Team
Karen Ford
I worked in many varied jobs across the world, including being a divemaster and plastic surgeons assistant, before sensibly settling down to complete my degree in Physiotherapy at Brighton University over 10 years ago. I worked for Brighton NHS for many years gaining experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, orthopaedic rehabilitation, hydrotherapy and had a special interest in women’s health working with pregnant ladies and those with continence issues. As part of my continuing professional development I have trained in acupuncture, which can be very successful when used alongside physiotherapy, in treating pain. I love the work I do and it’s a privilege to be able to use my professional knowledge to enable people to reach their potential. At present I am away on maternity leave, but will be back in late summer to return to what I do best.
Manuela Maxwell
I was born and raised in South Africa where I also gained my degree in Human Movement Science and an honours degree in Biokinetics otherwise known as exercise and sport rehabilitation. I did a two year internship in a Rehabilitation and Exercise Clinic which completed my qualification as a Biokineticist. I came to England in 2003 and gained 6 years hydrotherapy experience working in a rehabilitation hospital in Buckinghamshire. I love working with people, especially in rehabilitation as I am passionate about helping people gain their ability to improve their function. Seeing individuals improve their general well being is very rewarding. I am a very keen, dedicated triathlete and I believe that through my own experience and knowledge of working and training hard, I am able to understand what it takes to achieve a goal, and therefore I can apply this to the work I do.
Richard Lopez
I qualified with a degree in Physiotherapy from York St John University in 2005 and also previously completed a degree in Sports Science and Human Biology. I gained knowledge and experience in Physiotherapy working in a private hospital in York predominantly with orthopaedic and musculo-skeletal patients. Since then I have had varied experiences with different patient groups working within the NHS, the ministry of defence and I have also spent a year working in a private clinic and practicing Clinical Pilates in Australia. I was previously involved with a rugby club and have a keen interested in sports injuries. I am able to treat a wide variety of musculo-skeletal conditions and use a combination of manual therapy, exercise therapy, electrotherapy, acupuncture and hydrotherapy in my treatment. I enjoy my work and find it extremely rewarding in helping patients to achieve their goals. I am a keen sportsman and play competitive football and cricket. I also enjoy playing golf and tennis socially and other hobbies include playing the guitar, socialising and listening to live music.
