Holiday Cottage by the Sea
37 James Street, Selsey
So many of us enjoy days at the seaside - the sounds of the sea breaking on pebbles, the taste of the salt in the wind and the crying of gulls. 37, James Street provides a haven for our patients where they can enjoy a refreshing drink after the drive from Haslemere in a minibus, have lunch perhaps with a family member, staff and volunteers, sit in the garden or head off along the sea embankment. There are all the facilities needed by people in wheelchairs in a building that feels just like an ordinary home.

For a week once a month, this holiday cottage is kept available for groups of patients to make day visits. Many families take advantage of the opportunity to spend time with the patient out of the normal hospital setting.
The cottage is owned by the Charitable Company and apart from the first week of the month when it is reserved for the Hospital’s use, it is available for use by by families or organisations that need facilities for one or more disabled people.
The accommodation includes one wet room for disabled people and a bathroom and toilet, one ensuite bedroom, another fitted with overhead track-mounted hoist and 2 other bedrooms. There is full wheelchair access to the Sitting Room, kitchen, conservatory and spacious level garden. It is a short walk to the sea embankment where a level path runs for miles. A little further takes you to the town with shops, pubs, cafes and churches. The lifeboat station is close by and there is always something of interest to watch, people to chat to or the chance to simply relax in the fresh air.
